New Delhi, May 19: 24-year-old fast bowler Prince Yadav has been rewarded for his outstanding performance in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been selected for the Indian team for the ODI series against Afghanistan.
Born on December 12, 2001, in Delhi, Yadav made a name for himself in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024, where he took 16 wickets in 12 matches. His impressive performance earned him a debut in the IPL the following year.
Yadav debuted for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2025, claiming 3 wickets in 6 matches. In the ongoing IPL 2026, he has already secured 16 wickets at an average of 24 in 12 matches.
In his first match of the season against Delhi Capitals, Yadav took 2 wickets for just 20 runs. He followed this up with another 2 wickets for 34 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He also took 1 wicket each against Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, and claimed 3 wickets for 32 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 15.
Yadav continued his strong performance with 2 wickets each against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, although he did not take any wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. On May 7, he again took 3 wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore, notably bowling out Virat Kohli without him scoring. Kohli was surprised by Yadav’s delivery and praised him after the match.
However, Yadav faced challenges in his subsequent matches against Chennai Super Kings, where he failed to take any wickets.
In his first-class career, Yadav has played 2 matches, taking 1 wicket. In List A cricket, he has claimed 29 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 20.31. He has played 33 T20 matches, securing 38 wickets.
The Indian team will play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan from June 14 to 20 in Dharamshala, Lucknow, and Chennai. Yadav’s fast bowling, accurate line-length, and control in death overs could strengthen Team India. His variety puts pressure on batsmen, and his consistent performances in domestic cricket and the IPL could make him a valuable asset for India.
