Udaipur, Aug 11 – Under the Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign (PMSMA), free health check-ups were conducted today for 3,298 pregnant women across 134 medical institutions in the district. As part of the initiative, 169 expectant mothers were issued ‘Maa Vouchers’ for free sonography services.
Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Ashok Aditya informed that the monthly PMSMA camp, usually held on the 9th of every month, was conducted today due to two consecutive government holidays. The campaign aims to ensure timely antenatal care, identify high-risk pregnancies, and prevent complications during delivery.
Under the state government’s Maa Voucher Scheme, pregnant women receive free sonography at government facilities and registered private diagnostic centres. RCHO Dr. Rakesh Gupta stated that, during the check-ups, tests for blood, urine, haemoglobin, blood pressure, and sugar levels were carried out at no cost. High-risk cases were referred to higher medical institutions for specialist consultation.
In addition to medical screening, pregnant women were counselled on breastfeeding, nutrition, vaccination, and the importance of iron, calcium, and vitamin intake. Awareness was also raised on consuming a balanced and nutritious diet.
The PMSMA is organised three times a month—on the 9th, 18th, and 27th—to provide consistent maternal healthcare services.
