Prime Minister Modi to Strengthen Ties with Five-Nation Tour Including UAE and Europe

New Delhi, May 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy from May 15 to May 20. The Ministry of External Affairs announced this on Monday.

The tour will kick off in the United Arab Emirates, where Modi will meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral issues and energy cooperation, aiming to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

Following the UAE, Modi will travel to the Netherlands, where he will stay from May 15 to May 17 at the invitation of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. During this visit, he will meet with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, as well as engage in discussions with Prime Minister Rutte.

The objective of this leg of the trip is to further strengthen the already robust cooperation between the two countries, focusing on defense, security, innovation, green hydrogen, semiconductors, and water-related strategic partnerships.

Next, from May 17 to May 18, Modi will visit Gothenburg, Sweden, at the invitation of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Modi will review all aspects of the bilateral relationship with Kristersson and explore new avenues for enhancing trade. The discussions will also cover green transition, artificial intelligence, new technologies, startups, robust supply chains, defense, space, climate action, and people-to-people connections.

After Sweden, Modi will travel to Norway from May 18 to May 19 to participate in the third India-Nordic Summit and hold several bilateral meetings. This will mark Modi’s first visit to Norway and the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in 43 years. He will meet with King Harald V and Queen Sonja, as well as engage in discussions with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Modi will also address the India-Norway Business and Research Conference.

Finally, from May 19 to May 20, Modi will visit Italy at the invitation of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. During this visit, he will meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and hold discussions with Prime Minister Meloni.

The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that this tour will further strengthen the partnership between India and Europe, particularly in the areas of trade and investment. The cooperation is expected to advance following the recent India-European Union free trade agreement.
