Prime Minister Modi Highlights Eastern Indias Development Vision in Odisha

Mumbai, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an event in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, on Saturday, celebrating the two-year anniversary of the Odisha government. He emphasized that the central government’s vision is to foster development in Eastern India as a means to advance the entire nation.

In his speech, Modi stated, “Our vision is that the development of Eastern India will lead to the development of India.” He noted that the region, which had been synonymous with backwardness during Congress’s tenure, is now becoming a gateway to progress. Odisha is witnessing this transformation firsthand.

While addressing the gathering, PM Modi acknowledged the completion of two years of the BJP government in Odisha. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be in Mayurbhanj and appreciated the large turnout. “Your warmth draws me back here repeatedly,” he remarked. He extended congratulations and best wishes to the people of Odisha for their journey under the double-engine government.

Remembering Pandit Raghunath Murmu, PM Modi highlighted his contribution to the Santhali language by developing the ‘Ol Chiki’ script. He mentioned that the government has presented the Constitution of India in Santhali and honored the children of Odisha with Padma awards. Over the past two years, the Odisha government has been tirelessly working to fulfill the dreams of its great personalities.

On this occasion, PM Modi also wished President Droupadi Murmu a happy birthday. He stated, “Today is special as we celebrate the birthday of our esteemed President, who grew up in Mayurbhanj. I wish her a long life and good health.”

Praising President Murmu, PM Modi noted that an Odia woman has reached such a significant position in the country, guiding the nation. “This is a matter of pride for all of us,” he added. He recognized her character, generosity, and unwavering dedication to serving the nation and society, which has strengthened the identity of both Mayurbhanj and Odisha.

During the event, PM Modi announced the inauguration and foundation-laying of several key development projects in Odisha, with an investment of approximately ₹47,000 crores. These projects, related to electricity, roads, health, railways, and education, will provide significant benefits to the local population.

He mentioned that the village of Pahadpur will be rapidly developed as a solar village, ensuring solar power reaches every home. Just as the Konark Sun Temple is a hallmark of Odisha, Pahadpur will establish its identity as a ‘solar village,’ providing free electricity to residents and creating an additional income source from surplus energy.

Looking ahead, PM Modi highlighted two significant milestones: the centenary of Odisha’s formation in 2036 and the centenary of India’s independence in 2047. “Odisha’s strong economy will contribute to a stronger India. I have faith in Odisha’s potential. Together, we must elevate Odisha to new heights of development.”
