
New Delhi, May 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his congratulations to Indian wrestlers for their remarkable achievements at the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championship held in Da Nang, Vietnam. He also wished them success in their future endeavors.
In a post on his X account, PM Modi expressed, “Our wrestlers delivered an outstanding performance. Our men’s freestyle and women’s wrestling teams clinched the team titles at the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championship 2026 in Da Nang, Vietnam. The men’s freestyle team secured 9 medals, including 4 golds, setting a record for the highest total medals by India in the history of the Under-23 Asian Championship. The women’s wrestling team won 10 medals, with 6 of them being gold. The Greco-Roman team also achieved a record with 8 medals. Congratulations to our wrestlers, and I wish them the best for their future efforts.”
Sanjay Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India, also congratulated the athletes, stating, “Winning the Under-23 Asian Championship trophy is a significant achievement for Indian wrestling and a matter of great pride for the entire nation. Our freestyle wrestlers demonstrated tremendous determination and technical improvement to outperform top wrestling nations like Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Across all three styles, our athletes have proven that the future of Indian wrestling is very bright. I sincerely congratulate all our medal winners, coaches, and support staff for making this historic victory possible.”
The Indian team‘s performance at the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championship in Da Nang was indeed memorable. They topped the freestyle wrestling category, surpassing countries like Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, which finished in second and third place, respectively.
With this historic victory in freestyle wrestling, the Indian team concluded their continental campaign on a high note, amassing a total of 27 medals, including 11 golds, 7 silvers, and 9 bronzes across freestyle, women’s wrestling, and Greco-Roman categories.
