Pre-Monsoon Showers to Bring Relief in Delhi, Heatwave Threatens Rajasthan and Gujarat
New Delhi, April 11 As India battles extreme weather conditions, pre-monsoon showers are set to bring temporary relief to parts of North India, while states like Rajasthan and Gujarat brace for intensified heatwave conditions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and private forecaster Skymet Weather have both issued alerts outlining significant changes in weather patterns across the country.
Rain in North India, But Rising Heat Elsewhere
According to Skymet, light pre-monsoon rainfall has already been recorded in parts of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Madhya Pradesh over the past few days. From now until April 12, areas including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience more showers. This rainfall is expected to momentarily ease the heatwave conditions that have been affecting these regions.
In contrast, Rajasthan and Gujarat are under high alert for increasing temperatures and the resurgence of heatwave conditions. Meteorologists warn that hot winds from Pakistanโs Sindh region could sweep across Saurashtra and the interior parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan, exacerbating heat levels.
IMD Rain Forecast and Hailstorm Alerts
The IMD has released its latest regional forecast predicting rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on April 11, with precipitation expected to continue in Uttarakhand until April 12.
From April 10 to 12, northwestern, central, and eastern India are also expected to receive isolated thunderstorms and showers. Heavy rain is likely in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh during this period. Additionally, a hailstorm alert has been issued for Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab on April 11.
Temperature Trends and Upcoming Heatwaves
IMD projections indicate a drop of 3โ5ยฐC in maximum temperatures across northwest India over the next few days. However, this respite will be short-lived. Temperatures may rise again by 2โ4ยฐC starting next week, particularly in western and central India.
A new wave of heat is expected to hit western Rajasthan between April 14 and 16, and eastern Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab by April 16. With this, heatwave conditions are expected to intensify significantly across western India.
