Prashant Kishor discusses 2024 polls with Congress leaders, may join party

New Delhi, April 16 : Political strategist Prashant Kishor on Saturday met Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of Congress, and made a presentation on the strategy for 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Sources said Kishor may join the Congress soon. He will join the party as a member, not a consultant, said a source, adding that there have been no talks so far about any post being offered. Party General Secretary KC Venugopal, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, besides senior party leaders Ambika Soni, Digvijaya Singh and Ajay Maken, were present during the meeting, which lasted for almost three hours. “Prashant Kishor has given a detailed presentation on 2024 polls strategy to the Congress chief. The plan presented by him will be looked after a group set up by Sonia Gandhi, which will submit a report to her within a week for final decision,” Venugopal told media after the meet. Among other things, Kishor asked the grand old party to focus on 370 seats, where they can win. Details of the seats were not given. Kishor further said that Congress should go solo in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha, while in states like Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Maharashtra, it should fight in alliance with other like-minded parties. A team of party leaders will now analyse the plan. Upcoming elections in the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh were also discussed. Discussions between Congress leaders and Kishor have been going on for a while about him joining the party. Last year, feedback was taken from party leaders on inducting the strategist in the party, but no conclusion was reached. It was followed by Kishor’s apparent attack at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in December 2021, saying the party lost more than 90 per cent of elections in the last 10 years and its leadership was “not the divine right” of an individual.
