Mumbai, May 21: Actress Pooja Bhatt, a prominent figure in Hindi cinema, took to social media to honor her late mother, Kiran Bhatt, by sharing a nostalgic photograph. On Thursday, she posted a cherished black-and-white image from her childhood on her Instagram Stories. In the photo, young Pooja is seen wearing a checkered shirt and sporting braids, standing next to her mother, who is holding Pooja’s younger brother, Rahul Bhatt.
Kiran Bhatt, who was not only Pooja’s mother but also the first wife of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, largely stayed away from the public eye. Raised in an orphanage, Kiran’s life story served as the inspiration for the famous film ‘Aashiqui.’
It is said that Mahesh Bhatt fell in love with Lauren Bright, a girl from the orphanage, during his school days. He would often sneak over the walls to meet her. After being caught, Lauren was expelled from the orphanage. At just 20 years old, they married, and she changed her name to Kiran Bhatt. The couple welcomed two children, Pooja and Rahul.
Despite Mahesh Bhatt’s name being linked to several actresses in the industry, he married Soni Razdan in 1986 after separating from Kiran, with whom he had two daughters, Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt.
Kiran passed away in 2003 after a prolonged illness, leaving the Bhatt family, especially Pooja and Rahul, deeply affected. Both siblings have spoken about their loss in various interviews.
While Kiran remained distant from the limelight and the film industry, Pooja Bhatt shares a profound and strong bond with her mother, often reminiscing by sharing old photographs on social media.
