Lucknow, February 20: The political landscape in Uttar Pradesh is heating up over the use of loudspeakers for the call to prayer during Ramadan. The Samajwadi Party has voiced strong opposition, deeming the decision inappropriate for the holy month.
Shivpal Yadav, the National General Secretary of the Samajwadi Party and a sitting MLA, stated, “The BJP government in the state is against certain sections of society. This decision is intentionally targeting Muslims, and such actions are meant to create a divisive atmosphere.”
On the controversy surrounding the Shankaracharya, Yadav remarked, “The government is promoting this issue, and the individual involved is part of the administration. I said this yesterday, and I reiterate today that they should resign. The government should have addressed how the administration treated the Shankaracharya.”
Atul Pradhan, another Samajwadi Party MLA, emphasized, “We are people of peace, harmony, and brotherhood. We must respect one another. This country will progress on the path of respect only if we remain united. Just as they support during Navratri, we should also support their fasting during Ramadan and honor each other’s sentiments.”
MLA R.K. Verma added, “We live in a secular country governed by the Indian Constitution, which recognizes multiple religions. If we allow loudspeakers for Durga Puja, we should not hesitate to permit them for Ramadan as well.”
Verma further questioned, “Who disrespected the Batuk Brahmins? Who committed that sin? Was it the two Deputy CMs? The sin was committed by the head of the BJP government.”
