Political Turmoil Erupts After Court Acquits Kejriwal and Sisodia in Liquor Scam Case

New Delhi, February 27: The political landscape in Delhi has intensified following the Rouse Avenue Court’s decision to acquit Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and party leader Manish Sisodia in the high-profile alleged liquor scam case.

Opposition leaders have welcomed the court’s ruling, launching sharp criticisms against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav praised the verdict, asserting that truth and justice stand with Kejriwal. He accused the BJP of betraying the trust of Delhi residents.

In a post on social media platform X, Yadav stated, “No allegation can be so large as to overshadow the truth. Today, every honest person can breathe a sigh of relief, while BJP supporters must feel deep shame.” He further claimed that the BJP has betrayed the people of Delhi.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti also took to social media, stating that the court’s decision to clear Kejriwal, Sisodia, and Kavita of charges exposes the arbitrary behavior of investigative agencies. She emphasized that when these agencies are wielded as political weapons, justice is the first casualty. The truth often takes years to emerge, accompanied by pain and tears.

Mufti noted that the court found no substantial and reliable evidence, yet years of imprisonment ensued. “There is nothing more dangerous than the abuse of power and the use of institutions as weapons,” she added, lamenting that this practice continues unchecked.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also reacted to the acquittals, urging the BJP-led central government not to compromise the integrity of investigative agencies for short-term political gains. He expressed his support for Kejriwal and Sisodia on social media.

Congress leader Pawan Khera questioned the timing of the acquittals, asking if it was merely coincidental that Chidambaram received prosecution approval due to the Tamil Nadu elections, or that Kejriwal and Sisodia were cleared ahead of elections in Punjab and Gujarat.

TMC MP Saket Gokhale criticized the BJP for fabricating false cases against opposition leaders, aimed at demoralizing them and tarnishing their reputations. He stated that the BJP’s use of the CBI and ED as political tools has been exposed once again, predicting that the central government will soon collapse like these fabricated cases. Gokhale congratulated Kejriwal and Sisodia on their acquittal.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also commented on the acquittals, alleging that false cases are being filed against opposition leaders. He accused the central government of misusing institutions for electoral advantage, noting that the court granted bail to most accused in the so-called liquor scam.
