Lucknow, February 27: Political tensions are escalating around Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, who is embroiled in a sexual harassment case. Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ashutosh Verma stated, “We have repeatedly said that saints should not be dragged into political battles. The current government, which claims to represent saints and sages, should learn from the Samajwadi Party’s approach.”
In an interview with a news agency, he recalled that in 2013, when a fraud case (Section 420) was filed against Ram Bhadracharaya concerning his university, the then opposition leader and Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey supported him alongside several ministers. They argued that since he acknowledged his mistakes, saints should be kept away from court proceedings. The Chief Minister had used his authority to resolve the matter entirely.
A sexual harassment case has been registered against Swami Avimukteshwaranand and his disciple at the Jhunsi police station. The complaint was filed by Ashutosh Brahmachari Maharaj of Tulsi Kunj.
Previously, Ram Bhadracharaya faced allegations of financial irregularities at his Jagadguru Ram Bhadracharaya Divyang University in Chitrakoot. He was accused of misusing government funds for personal construction projects and appointing relatives to key positions. After a three-year investigation, a case was filed in 2012, but the Samajwadi Party government later withdrew it.
Regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee‘s announcement to provide government jobs to the families of BLOs who died during the SIR process, Ashutosh Verma commented, “I believe this is a commendable step. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has consistently shown sensitivity towards the poor, backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. I think this decision will instill confidence in government and central employees that there is a Chief Minister who stands with their families.”
