Bengaluru, June 4: B.K. Hariprasad, the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), stated on Thursday that those seeking power and positions should align themselves with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. In contrast, he welcomed individuals focused on strengthening the party to join him.
Hariprasad made this remark after meeting Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara and addressing the media. His statement is expected to stir political controversy.
He emphasized, “Those who desire power and positions can go with D.K. Shivakumar. Those who want to organize and strengthen the party can come with me. Let’s work together by sharing responsibilities and advancing the party. I assure party workers that I will always stand by them.”
He reassured party workers not to worry about changes within the organization, promising to take responsibility for their interests and welfare.
“Those who want to strengthen the party can join us. People who have worked at various levels in the government and organization should unite and collaborate,” he added.
Referring to the national leadership, Hariprasad mentioned that senior leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi are consistently working to bolster the party organization.
“They are making continuous efforts to strengthen the party. If we want to reinforce their endeavors, we must also take to the streets to fight for public issues and actively participate in movements,” he stated.
Hariprasad clarified that his comments should not be misconstrued. He insisted that his remarks were solely about organizational responsibilities and the need to strengthen the party.
He assured party workers that he would stand by them in every circumstance and protect their interests. The organizational operations of the party will be expedited.
Sources indicate that these statements were directed at former ministers actively lobbying to become cabinet ministers in the Shivakumar government.
Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara visited Hariprasad at his residence in Sadashivanagar to congratulate him on being appointed the new KPCC president.
