New Delhi, July 28: A political storm has erupted over BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut’s recent comments regarding ‘Gen Z’ and the so-called ‘gutter generation’ on social media. Leaders from the Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) have criticized her statements, raising several questions.
Congress MP Syed Nasir Hussain remarked, “Kangana Ranaut should not be taken seriously. She lacks an understanding of students’ rights, democratic systems, and the core principles of democracy. She repeatedly expresses her views through such statements.”
Congress MP Sukdev Bhagat added, “Kangana may be a member of Parliament, but if her own party does not take her statements seriously, how can the general public? She might be a successful actress, but her political remarks have often stirred controversy. She has previously claimed that Subhas Chandra Bose was the first Prime Minister of India and stated that India gained independence in 2014. There is no reason to take her statements seriously.”
Samajwadi Party leader Udayveer Singh also responded sharply to Kangana’s comments. He stated, “Success in films and a deep understanding of politics are two different things. Kangana’s political insight is very limited. Political parties sometimes nominate film stars to win elections, but that doesn’t mean they possess political acumen. In the BJP government, such individuals are given positions merely for namesake; the real work is done by the party itself. Her statements should be evaluated based on her political experience.”
Congress MP Imran Masood targeted Kangana as well, saying, “Before giving lessons to students, Kangana should disclose her educational qualifications. It is essential to consider facts and responsibility when commenting on education and student-related issues.”
This entire controversy began after Kangana’s social media posts, in which she made sharp remarks about the new generation and certain Indian women. In her posts, she stated, “Today, we see a new generation of Indian women influenced by Western thinking. I call them the ‘gutter generation.’ Some of them have nothing to contribute to society. They are not good at studies but possess such ugly thinking and corrupt mentality that they cannot even become good housewives.”
She further wrote, “Despite this, they pretend to be free, equating intoxication, alcohol, and numerous sexual relationships with freedom. They shamelessly depend on their parents’ earnings while constantly talking about living an independent life, when in reality, they are not self-sufficient. Let me tell you, to live a free life, one must earn. If you try to be free without taking responsibility, you are merely a person with a distorted mindset, a ‘gutter type.'”
In her post, Kangana also questioned the upbringing of ‘Gen Z.’ She wrote, “I have never seen such ugliness all at once in my life. Watching videos of Gen Z protests makes me disgusted by their manner of speaking and the language they use, which I have never encountered before. Every video is disturbing and makes me feel sick. Who is giving birth to them, and who is raising them?”
