New Delhi, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : A controversial video showing Delhi’s Public Works Department Minister Pravesh Verma slapping an individual during a road inspection has escalated into a political confrontation. On Monday, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Verma exchanged heated remarks regarding the incident.
Both leaders released recorded videos blaming each other for the controversy. They cautioned against taking the public mandate lightly. Kejriwal, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that the government’s attempts to connect with the youth were half-hearted.
In a post on the social media platform X, Kejriwal stated, “You are trying to connect with the youth in various ways, but they have distanced themselves from you.” He emphasized that the government’s efforts to gain support from young people would be futile unless it took concrete actions and demonstrated genuine concern for their issues.
Kejriwal alleged that there were directives from higher authorities to protect Minister Verma at all costs. He remarked, “You will shield corrupt individuals and the minister who slapped someone, and then expect the youth to connect with you. That will not happen.”
He further suggested that if the government arrested Verma and the contractors responsible for poor road conditions, young people would rally behind them. However, he expressed skepticism about such actions being taken.
In response, Pravesh Verma quickly released his own video addressing Kejriwal’s claims. He asserted that the young man involved in the incident was not a member of the youth demographic but rather a “goon” associated with AAP.
Verma directly countered Kejriwal’s assertions, stating, “The youth you are referring to is not a young person; he was your goon.” He accused AAP leaders of prioritizing theatrics over the actual development of Delhi, mentioning the controversial individual’s past criminal record.
In his video, Verma claimed, “The person who came yesterday is a history-sheeter with prior cases against him. There is even an FIR related to breaking an MCD employee’s neck, which involved your MLA’s nephew.” He welcomed Kejriwal to visit the site of the incident in Tilak Nagar but warned against spreading rumors or exerting pressure, stating it would be unproductive.
Verma concluded by asserting that if AAP’s “goons” attempted to pressure MCD employees or demand commissions, there would be consequences. He clarified that he was inspecting development projects and addressing local issues raised by residents and the area’s AAP MLA.
Tensions continue to simmer as both sides stand firm in their positions regarding the incident and its implications for Delhi’s political landscape.
