Police Inspector and Lawyer Caught Red-Handed Taking ₹2.5 Lakh Bribe in Banswara

ACB Arrests Raj Talab Police Inspector and Middleman Lawyer in High-Profile Corruption Case

JAIPUR, April 25, 2025 — In a major crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Banswara arrested Inspector Dilip Singh, in-charge of Raj Talab police station, and Sharif Khan, a lawyer acting as a middleman, for allegedly accepting a ₹2.5 lakh bribe late Thursday night.

Police Inspector and Lawyer Caught

According to ACB Director General Dr. Ravi Prakash Meharda, a complaint was filed by a woman alleging that her family’s vehicles had been seized under a property confiscation case initiated by the Raj Talab police station. The inspector had allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹6.5 lakh to prevent further seizure of remaining assets and to ensure the family would not be harassed in the future.

Bribery Demand Verified, Trap Laid by ACB

During the verification process, the middleman lawyer Sharif Khan was recorded agreeing to accept ₹3.5 lakh on behalf of Inspector Singh. Of this, ₹1 lakh was already received by the accused on police premises during the sting operation’s verification stage.

Following this, a trap was meticulously planned under the supervision of Additional SP Rishikesh, where Sharif Khan was caught red-handed accepting ₹2.5 lakh as the remaining bribe on behalf of the inspector.

The ACB team immediately arrested both Sharif Khan and Inspector Dilip Singh, confirming their involvement in the bribery transaction.

Legal Action Underway

The ACB has launched a formal investigation into the matter, with both accused expected to be produced before the anti-corruption court. The incident has sparked fresh concerns over misuse of power within law enforcement in property and asset-related cases.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau is continuing its probe to determine if more officials or accomplices were involved in this extortion scheme.
