Bareilly, September 2: In a significant breakthrough, police in Bareilly’s Mirganj area have apprehended two suspects involved in a robbery that occurred about a month ago. The arrests took place early Wednesday following an encounter.
Ajay Kumar, the Circle Officer of Mirganj, informed reporters that at approximately 3 AM on August 2, 2024, police received a tip-off about two suspicious individuals near the Balupura Chandan Kheda intersection. Upon arrival, the police team surrounded the suspects. Realizing they were cornered, the duo attempted to flee towards Balupura and opened fire on the police.
In response, the police fired back, injuring one suspect in the right leg. Both suspects were subsequently arrested. The injured suspect has been identified as Ravi, son of Ashok, while the second suspect is Vicky, son of Mulchand. Both are reported to be residents of Mirganj.
During the encounter, police recovered an illegal .315 bore pistol, a spent cartridge, a live cartridge, the motorcycle used in the crime, and approximately ₹10,000. Initial reports indicated that the recovered amount was around ₹9,500.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to being involved in a robbery where they snatched ₹1 lakh from an individual near Rampura Kisan about a month ago. A case has been registered under FIR number 374/24 at the Mirganj police station. Authorities are now questioning the suspects to gather more information about the incident and any potential accomplices.
Following the encounter, the police’s field unit arrived at the scene to collect evidence. The injured suspect is receiving treatment, and police have stated that further legal actions are underway.
