Police Clash with Poachers in Pilibhit: Two Injured, Three Arrested

Pilibhit, April 25: In a recent encounter between police and poachers in the Barahi range of Pilibhit, two suspects were injured, while three others were apprehended. These poachers had previously made headlines for hunting wildlife and firing at forest officials. A serious case was registered against them on April 15 at the Madhotanda police station.

The police had already arrested one suspect during an earlier encounter. Following the latest clash, security measures in the area have been tightened, and interrogations of the arrested individuals are underway.

On April 15, some individuals hunted a wild animal in the Barahi range of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve and fired upon forest department officials. A relevant case was registered at the Madhotanda police station. One of the suspects, Harjinder Singh, was sent to jail on April 21, and a weapon was recovered from him.

Acting on precise information, the police surrounded the other suspects, who opened fire on the police team. In self-defense, the police returned fire. During the encounter, two suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs, and three others were arrested. The weapon used to kill the wildlife was also recovered, along with another firearm.

Pilibhit’s Superintendent of Police, Sukirti Madhav, confirmed that on April 15, some individuals hunted a wild boar in the PTR’s Barahi forest and fired at forest officials. One suspect was arrested during the police encounter and was sent to jail on April 21.

He stated that on the night of April 24, police acted on accurate information to surround the remaining suspects. The suspects fired at the police, prompting a retaliatory response. Two suspects were injured, and three others were arrested. He assured that necessary legal actions are being taken in this case.
