Ghaziabad, May 10: The Muradnagar police of Ghaziabad Commissionerate apprehended two criminals late Saturday night during an encounter linked to robbery and theft incidents. One of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and has been admitted to the hospital. Authorities recovered illegal firearms, stolen mobile phones, and a motorcycle from the accused.
According to ACP Verma, police received information that two criminals were planning to commit a robbery along the Delhi-Meerut road and the Ganganahar embankment. Following this tip-off, the Muradnagar police team initiated checks for suspicious individuals and vehicles near the dumping ground railway bridge. During this operation, two young men on a motorcycle approached from the Chittoda canal bridge. When the police signaled them to stop, they attempted to evade by turning the motorcycle, which ultimately skidded and fell. At that moment, the passenger fired at the police team with a firearm. In response, the police fired back in self-defense, injuring one of the suspects. Both were subsequently arrested at the scene.
The injured suspect has been identified as Rahul, also known as Ritik, a resident of Jafrabad, Delhi. The second suspect is named Vinay, hailing from Usmanpur, Delhi. Police recovered a .315 bore firearm, one live cartridge, one spent cartridge, and a mobile phone from Rahul. Vinay was found in possession of an illegal knife, nine stolen mobile phones, and a stolen motorcycle.
ACP Verma stated that the arrested criminals were involved in thefts across Delhi, Ghaziabad, Sahibabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad. They sold the stolen mobile phones in Delhi to fund their lifestyle. Rahul has 16 cases of theft and robbery registered against him in Delhi, Meerut, Aligarh, and Ghaziabad, while Vinay has four cases.
It is noteworthy that on August 8, police arrested two notorious snatchers in Shalimar Garden. One suspect was injured by police gunfire, while his accomplice was apprehended while attempting to flee. The injured suspect was also taken to the hospital.
