Poland will become free of Russian oil, gas by new year: PM

Warsaw, March 30 : Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Wednesday said that Poland is taking measures to free its dependence on Russian oil and gas by the end of 2022 in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Al Jazeera reported. Morawiecki said that while his country is already broadly independent of Russian oil, Poland now intends to put forward a very radical plan by any European country to wean itself off Russian imports entirely. He further added that the dependence on Russian oil and gas would partly be achieved by focusing more on renewable energies. Poland’s national-conservative Law and Justice party (PiS) has been pressing for an EU embargo on Russian oil, gas and coal since the start of Russia’s invasion and on Tuesday the Polish government had already announced that they would stop importing coal from Russia.
