PM Modi Strengthens India-Italy Ties in Meeting with President Mattarella

Rome, May 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Rome on Wednesday. The leaders discussed enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors, including trade, technology, innovation, clean energy, artificial intelligence, and cultural cooperation.

PM Modi shared the details on the social media platform X, stating, “I met President Sergio Mattarella in Rome. We discussed various aspects of friendship between India and Italy, including trade, investment, and cultural ties.”

According to the Prime Minister, areas such as AI, critical minerals, space, and nuclear energy present opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other senior officials.

Before the meeting, PM Modi and President Mattarella warmly welcomed each other and interacted with their respective delegations.

After the meeting, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella. Both leaders reaffirmed the strong and long-term partnership between India and Italy, discussing various areas including trade, technology, innovation, clean energy, AI, and culture. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues.”

Earlier on Tuesday, PM Modi attended a dinner hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. He shared photos from the event and expressed eagerness to continue discussions on strengthening India-Italy friendship. Both leaders also visited the famous Colosseum in Rome.

PM Modi noted, “Upon arriving in Rome, I had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni for dinner, followed by a visit to the Colosseum. We shared our perspectives on various topics. I look forward to today’s discussions, where we will continue to enhance India-Italy friendship.”

Meloni warmly welcomed PM Modi upon his arrival in Rome, stating on X, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!”
