Varanasi, April 17: Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has expressed strong support for the Women’s Reservation Bill. He highlighted the significant participation of women in Varanasi, stating that they have transcended caste, religion, and community barriers. He extended his gratitude to PM Modi on behalf of the state’s 250 million residents, noting that women have historically been denied their rights since independence.
Pathak emphasized that PM Modi is committed to granting women their rightful entitlements. He criticized political parties like the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress for neglecting women’s issues, accusing them of making misleading statements in Parliament. He pointed out that while these parties discuss reservations based on religion, they are aware that the Constitution does not permit such provisions. Instead, he believes they are merely engaging in divisive politics to mislead society.
The Deputy CM asserted that the SP does not wish to empower women. However, he stated that PM Modi is set to convene a special session of Parliament to ensure that half of the country’s population receives their rights. He envisions a future where daughters, sisters, and mothers will have the ability to create their own laws in the largest councils and assemblies of the nation. This, he believes, will be a decisive step toward realizing the vision of a developed India.
Regarding the issue of redistricting, he recalled how SP members tore up the bill in 2010, indicating their lack of genuine intent. He accused Congress of wanting to keep the situation tangled and exploitative. PM Modi has taken a firm stance on ensuring women’s rights, yet he noted that both Congress and SP are attempting to create obstacles. He concluded by honoring all women, daughters, and sisters for their resilience.
