New Delhi, April 28: During his visit to Sikkim, Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoyed a game of football with local children in the capital, Gangtok. Kalyan Chaubey, President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), stated that PM Modi’s encouragement of football will inspire more children to engage in the sport.
Chaubey remarked, “Football is played worldwide. In India, millions of children watch and play football. It is a core sport in Bengal. PM Modi playing football with children in Sikkim is a joyous occasion for everyone associated with the game. It is a matter of pride that PM Modi himself plays and enjoys football.”
He added, “It is commendable that PM Modi promotes not just football but every sport. Through the ‘Khelo India’ initiative, thousands of children and athletes have benefited. He has honored Asian Games winners and Paralympic champions, elevating sports and athletes to a new level. I believe that with PM Modi’s encouragement, we will all strive to ensure that more children connect with football and play well.”
PM Modi shared several pictures on the social media platform X, showcasing moments of him playing football and interacting with the children. In one post, he wrote, “A lovely morning in Gangtok, the joy of playing football with my little friends is unmatched.” In another, he mentioned, “An incredible football session with these young talents.”
A video of his interaction with the children was also shared on his X account, where PM Modi emphasized, “Practicing alone is not enough; matches are essential. They teach us and ignite our passion. We need to popularize this in the coming days. As you may know, India is striving to host the Olympics. By that time, you all will become mature players. Therefore, you should aim to improve now and prepare with the goal of playing in the Olympics.”
