New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pride in India’s armed forces during the Beating Retreat ceremony, which marks the conclusion of the Republic Day celebrations. Speaking on social media platform ‘X’ on Thursday evening, the Prime Minister described the event as a symbol of India’s rich military heritage and strength.
“This evening, the Beating Retreat will be held. It signifies the end of the Republic Day festivities. It will showcase the power of India’s glorious military legacy. We are extremely proud of our armed forces dedicated to the nation’s defence,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister also shared a Sanskrit shloka emphasising the importance of wisdom and honour in a warrior’s journey towards victory. The verse urges warriors to channel their anger with discretion and to lead their people with respect and courage, inspiring collective triumph.
The Beating Retreat ceremony took place at Vijay Chowk on January 29, conducted with grandeur. The bands of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Central Armed Police Forces performed patriotic and soul-stirring tunes to captivate the audience. The event was attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, other Union Ministers, senior officials, and members of the public.
The ceremony marks the formal end of the Republic Day events, held three days after the main celebrations. Rooted in a centuries-old military tradition, the Beating Retreat signifies the moment at sunset when soldiers ceased fighting, sheathed their weapons, and returned to their camps upon hearing the retreat signal.
