PM Modi Meets Citigroup Chairperson Jane Fraser to Discuss Indias Economic Growth and Investment Opportunities

Mumbai, June 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Jane Fraser, Chairperson and CEO of Citigroup, to discuss India’s economic growth, investment landscape, and the role of global financial institutions in advancing the country’s key development priorities. This meeting took place on Wednesday and was made public on Thursday.

In a statement released by Citibank, the Prime Minister shared his vision for accelerating economic development to achieve the “Developed India 2047” goal.

Several critical topics were addressed during the meeting, including investment and capital flow in India, opportunities for Indian companies abroad, alternative energy, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Both parties also deliberated on how Citigroup can further strengthen India’s economic agenda, attract global investors, and support Indian companies as they expand into new international markets.

This meeting underscores the confidence global financial institutions have in Prime Minister Modi’s reform agenda. His leadership has initiated several significant initiatives that have redirected India’s banking sector and rapidly promoted financial inclusion.

Additionally, the discussion included opportunities related to the development of alternative energy sources, with a particular focus on clean energy sources like solar power and green hydrogen.

The statement noted that AI-related topics were also part of the conversation, including the role of regulation and areas where this technology could be leveraged to accelerate economic growth.

Joining Jane Fraser was K. Balasubramaniam, CEO of Citi India, who expressed pride in the company’s nearly 125-year presence and collaboration in India, while reiterating Citi’s strong commitment to the country and its clients.

As a leading international bank, Citi is hosting its “Citi India Conference” in Mumbai from June 3 to 5, which will see participation from over 1,500 clients and investors.

The event aims to advance investment discussions related to India and prominently showcase available investment opportunities for global capital. Citi will celebrate its 125th anniversary in India in 2027.
