PM Modi Launches National HPV Vaccination Campaign to Empower Women

Ajmer, February 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the national HPV vaccination campaign against cervical cancer from Ajmer, Rajasthan, on Saturday. During the event, five girls received the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. The campaign aims to vaccinate approximately 11.5 million girls aged 14 across all states and union territories annually. The vaccine will be provided free of charge at designated government health centers.

Following the launch of the nationwide HPV vaccination initiative, Prime Minister Modi stated, “Our government is committed to comprehensive development. With the launch of the HPV vaccination campaign from Ajmer, we are also inaugurating and laying the foundation for several projects and distributing appointment letters to the youth.”

Addressing the gathering, Modi emphasized that the HPV vaccination campaign is a significant step towards empowering women in the country. He remarked, “We all know that when a mother is unwell, the family falls apart. If the mother is healthy, the family can face any crisis. With this sentiment, the BJP government has implemented numerous schemes to support women.”

Modi reflected on the challenges faced before 2014, highlighting the lack of toilets that caused immense pain and humiliation for sisters and daughters. Many girls dropped out of school due to the absence of separate toilet facilities. He noted, “For those who were in power before, these issues were trivial, and discussions around them were rare. For us, these are sensitive matters that harm our sisters and daughters, and we have addressed them as a mission.”

He also pointed out the dangers of malnutrition during pregnancy, which posed a significant risk to mothers’ lives. Modi mentioned the introduction of a scheme to ensure safe motherhood, which includes depositing ₹5,000 into the accounts of mothers to provide them with nutritious food. He added, “Mothers used to cough in smoke but never complained. We said this cannot continue, leading to the Ujjwala gas scheme. All these initiatives were possible because the BJP government works with sensitivity, not just from a position of power.”
