New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth nearly ₹830 crore in Singur, Hooghly district, West Bengal, on Sunday. On the same day, he also flagged off three Amrit India Express trains, marking a significant boost to the region’s infrastructure and connectivity.
Before the event, PM Modi shared a post on the social media platform X, expressing the central government’s firm commitment to accelerating West Bengal’s development journey. He highlighted the importance of the projects in strengthening infrastructure, transport, and connectivity within the state.
In his post, the Prime Minister stated, “Our government is dedicated to fast-tracking West Bengal’s growth. Today, several key development initiatives will be inaugurated or have their foundation stones laid in Singur. These include the foundation for an extended Port Gate System at Balagarh, incorporating an Inland Water Transport (IWT) terminal and a road overbridge. Additionally, the launch of an electric catamaran in Kolkata and the inauguration of a new railway line between Jayrambati and Maynapur will take place. Alongside, Amrit India Express trains will be flagged off.”
Besides West Bengal, PM Modi is scheduled to perform the ground-breaking ceremony for the Kajiranga Elevated Corridor Project in Kaliabor, Nagaon district of Assam. This ₹6,950 crore project includes an 86-kilometre-long environment-friendly national highway with a 35-kilometre elevated wildlife corridor passing through Kajiranga National Park, a 21-kilometre bypass section, and the widening of NH-715 from two to four lanes.
On Sunday, PM Modi will also flag off two new Amrit India Express trains from Nagaon, enhancing railway connectivity between the Northeast and Northern India. These new train services are expected to provide safer and more convenient travel options for passengers.
These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to boosting infrastructure development and improving transport facilities in the eastern and northeastern regions of India.
