PM Modi Inspires Young Athletes in Gangtok to Aim for Olympic Glory

Gangtok, April 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoyed a morning of football with local youth during his visit to Sikkim. He encouraged the young players, stating that India is striving to host the Olympics. “You all need to be prepared,” he emphasized.

The Prime Minister shared a video of his interaction with the young athletes on his X account. In the clip, he playfully asked, “Will you teach me to play football? It’s not like you can beat me.”

He also told one child that they could become a great coach. Modi further explained, “Practicing alone is not enough; matches are essential. They teach us and ignite our passion. We need to popularize this sport. As India aims to host the Olympics, you will become mature players by then. So, strive to improve and prepare with the goal of participating in the Olympics.”

During the session, PM Modi was seen playing football, skillfully maneuvering the ball and scoring several goals.

Earlier, he shared photos on his X account, stating, “A lovely morning in Gangtok, playing football with my little friends is truly special.” In another post, he mentioned, “An incredible football session with these young talents.” He even signed footballs for the players.

PM Modi arrived in Gangtok on the evening of April 27. His schedule for Tuesday is packed. After spending time with the children, he will visit the Orchidarium in Gangtok. He will also attend the closing ceremony of the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s statehood at Paljor Stadium, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation for various development projects worth over ₹4,000 crores across the state. He is expected to address the gathering as well.

These projects span multiple sectors, including infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, electricity, urban development, environment, tourism, and agriculture, aiming to accelerate comprehensive and inclusive development in Sikkim.
