New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the National Cadet Corps (NCC) rally held at Kariyappa Ground, New Delhi, on Wednesday. He commended the cadets and officials present, including participants from various friendly countries.
Modi specially appreciated the large number of female cadets attending the event, recognising their growing participation. He stated that the NCC is a significant organisation that shapes India’s youth into confident, disciplined, sensitive, and nation-dedicated citizens. Over the years, the number of NCC cadets has increased from 14 lakh to 20 lakh, with notable growth in border and coastal areas.
The Prime Minister described the NCC as a platform where youth proudly live their heritage. He highlighted the enthusiastic celebrations marking 150 years of the Vande Mataram and mentioned various countrywide programmes, including the Paramvir Sagar Yatra. Modi recalled how the government named 21 islands in Andaman and Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra awardees, a tribute that the NCC has helped carry forward.
He also referred to the island festivals in Lakshadweep that celebrated sea, culture, and nature together. Modi praised the NCC for bringing history alive in the hearts of people through initiatives like cycle rallies that honoured the bravery of Bajirao Peshwa, the skill of warrior Lasithphor Phunkji, and the leadership of Birsa Munda. He extended his appreciation to all for their courageous efforts and congratulated those receiving awards at the event.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the present time offers the greatest opportunities for India’s youth. He cited the recent historic Free Trade Agreement between India and Europe as an example of the government’s efforts to create more opportunities. He also mentioned similar agreements with Oman, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, UAE, Australia, and Mauritius, which are expected to benefit millions of young Indians.
