PM Modi Emphasizes Gratitude Towards Martyrs with Sanskrit Verse

Prime Minister Modi shares a Sanskrit verse highlighting the importance of remembering the sacrifices of martyrs and expressing gratitude.

New Delhi, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media on Wednesday to convey a powerful message about the importance of never forgetting the contributions of martyrs. He shared a Sanskrit verse that encapsulates this sentiment.

The verse, “प्रथमवयसि पीतं तोयमल्पं स्मरन्तः शिरसि निहितभारा नारिकेला नराणाम्. ददति जलमनल्पास्वादमाजीवितान्तं न हि कृतमुपकारं साधवो विस्मरन्ति,” translates to the idea that just as the coconut tree remembers the small amount of water it receives in its early days and continues to provide sweet water throughout its life, true individuals—especially martyrs—never forget the favors done for them. They remain deeply grateful for their sacrifices, dedication, and commitment, dedicating their lives to uphold these ideals.

This verse teaches us the profound virtue of gratitude, encouraging us to remember any good deed done by anyone at any time. It inspires us to feel thankful and reciprocate with our own acts of kindness. Such qualities not only soften the heart but also expand our perspectives.

A noble heart never forgets any act of kindness bestowed upon it. Reciting this verse can evoke deep emotions and foster a sense of gratitude.

The Sanskrit verse shared by the Prime Minister is drawn from the text ‘Sūbhāṣitaratnabhāṇḍāgāra,’ which is divided into six or seven chapters, including sections on auspicious verses, general topics, royal matters, and various themes. The seventh chapter is ‘Saṅkīrṇa.’

This text compiles thousands of verses—over 10,000—arranged by subject, encompassing poetry, drama, and various narratives.
