New Delhi, March 21 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and others hailed Indian young badminton sensation Lakshya Sen for winning the silver medal finish at the All England Open championships, the world’s oldest badminton tournament. Lakshya lost 10-21, 15-21 to Olympic champion and world no. 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark on Sunday in the final. The 20-year-old became the fourth Indian male shuttler after Paraksh Nath (1947), Paraksh Padukone (1980 and 1981) and Pullela Gopichand (2001) to reach the final of the All England Open. “Proud of you Lakshya Sen! You’ve shown remarkable grit and tenacity. You put up a spirited fight. Best wishes for your future endeavours. I am confident you will keep scaling new heights of success,” the Prime Minister tweeted. Taking to Twitter, Sachin said: “There are no failures in life. You either win or you learn. I am sure you have learnt so much from this amazing experience. Lakshya, wish you the very best for upcoming tournaments.” Minister of Sports Anurag Thakur said: “Proud of you Lakshya! Keep going strong, the journey is long!” Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai said: “What a splendid performance! Proud of you Lakshya.” Lakshya Sen trains in Bengaluru. “You are second to none, Lakshya. You have won a billion hearts,” said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
