New Delhi, December 4 – The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme introduced by the Indian Government to boost solar PV module manufacturing has generated 43,000 jobs across the country by October 2025, including 11,220 direct employment opportunities. This information was shared by the government in the Lok Sabha.
The government reported that employment opportunities under this scheme have been created across Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Odisha.
Gujarat emerged as the biggest beneficiary of this scheme, where Adani New Industries and several other major companies have collectively created over 22,400 employment opportunities through large-scale projects.
Tamil Nadu ranks second, where FS India Solar Ventures, VSL Green Power, and TP Solar have together provided 6,800 jobs. In Andhra Pradesh, two solar manufacturing companies have generated 1,620 employment opportunities, while in Odisha, AMPIN Solar has provided 200 jobs.
Renew Photovoltaics, Grew Energy, Avada Electro, and other companies have employed hundreds of people across multiple location projects.
The Indian Government is operating the Production Linked Incentive scheme with an outlay of Rs 24,000 crore to enhance the manufacturing of high-capacity solar PV modules.
Currently, India’s solar PV module manufacturing capacity stands at 121.68 gigawatts. In the current financial year (up to September 2025), the country imported 180.58 lakh solar PV modules valued at $386.33 million.
According to rating agency ICRA, India’s solar PV module manufacturing capacity could exceed 165 gigawatts by March 2027.
China continues to dominate the global solar PV supply chain, holding a 90 percent share in polysilicon and wafer manufacturing, 85 percent in cells, and 80 percent in modules.
