Piyush Goyal Challenges Rahul Gandhi Over PM Modis Italy Visit and Gift Exchange

New Delhi, May 20: Union Minister Piyush Goyal has responded to opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Italy, where he presented Indian-made toffees to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Goyal questioned, “Why do you harbor such hatred for every product made in India?”

During the visit, PM Modi gifted a packet of ‘Melody’ toffees to Meloni, which prompted Gandhi to remark, “An economic storm is looming, and our Prime Minister is distributing toffees in Italy!”

In a post on the social media platform X, Goyal expressed his disbelief at Gandhi’s sentiments, stating, “Why does Rahul Gandhi have such disdain for India and everything made in India?”

He emphasized that India has become a trusted global destination through the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Local Goes Global’ initiatives. However, he noted that the Congress party seems to find problems in every achievement of the nation.

Goyal added that the global respect, investment, and trust that India has gained after decades of waiting under PM Modi’s leadership seem to be intolerable for Rahul Gandhi.

During his visit, PM Modi was warmly welcomed by Meloni upon his arrival in Rome on Tuesday night (local time). Meloni expressed her gratitude for the thoughtful gift in a 12-second video clip shared on X, where she remarked, “Prime Minister Modi has brought us a wonderful gift. These toffees are very delicious.”

As part of a five-nation tour, PM Modi’s stop in Italy marks the final leg of his journey.
