
Patiala, August 13: In a shocking incident in Patiala, Punjab, a pet pitbull attacked a professor from Chandigarh University, leaving her severely injured. The victim, Shifali Sabharwal, was taken to the hospital by her family, where she underwent plastic surgery.
Shifali was visiting a house in the Ghuman Nagar area with her family when the attack occurred. As soon as the gate was opened, the pitbull inside lunged at her, causing serious injuries.
Following the incident, a video of the attack went viral on social media, prompting police action. DSP Jangjeet Randhawa confirmed that the police became aware of the video and subsequently contacted the affected family. Shifali is currently receiving treatment at Amar Hospital, where she has already undergone surgery.
DSP Randhawa stated that legal action will be taken once the medical report is received. An FIR will be filed under Section 291 of the BNS for cases involving injuries caused by pets.
He also mentioned that actions will be taken regarding dangerous dog breeds in accordance with court orders. After August 15, the police plan to conduct a campaign to investigate and verify such cases. Further actions will be based on the medical report and other relevant facts.
Randhawa noted that a case is being registered based on the family’s complaint, and the victim’s statement will also be taken to gather accurate information about the incident. A team is being formed to investigate the matter and provide a report as soon as possible for further action.
