Pathum Nissankas Half-Century Boosts Confidence, Says Mohammad Kaif

New Delhi, May 2: On Friday, the IPL 2026 match featured the Rajasthan Royals (RR) facing off against the Delhi Capitals (DC). The Delhi Capitals successfully chased down a formidable target of 226 runs, defeating Rajasthan by seven wickets. A key highlight of Delhi’s victory was the explosive half-century from opener Pathum Nissanka. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif stated that Nissanka’s innings will significantly boost his confidence.

Kaif remarked on JioCinema, “Pathum Nissanka’s innings of 62 runs will provide him with considerable confidence. At the start of the tournament, he was making good starts but failing to convert them into big scores. When you have an international opener in your team, you expect them to play substantial innings. This match against Rajasthan was the perfect opportunity for Nissanka to perform well. He looked extremely dangerous this season, dominating bowlers like Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger.”

Kaif continued, “Archer and Burger typically apply pressure on opposing batsmen right from the start, but the Delhi openers managed to counter that. They set a solid score during the power play, which paved the way for chasing the target. That opening partnership was the main reason Delhi successfully chased down the target.”

He also praised Nitish Rana, who scored 33 runs off 17 balls while batting at number three. Kaif noted that Rana showcased excellent skills against spin. He stepped onto the field and took on Ravindra Jadeja, hitting sixes with ease. He attacked from the first ball and made full use of his good form. His quick innings shifted the momentum. Rana’s contribution was crucial in establishing Delhi’s dominance during the middle overs. He has been performing well for years. Although Delhi lost to Punjab Kings, his innings of 91 runs was outstanding. His confidence is high, and he is playing well.

While chasing the target of 226 runs set by RR, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul provided Delhi Capitals with a strong and explosive start, adding 110 runs for the first wicket in just 9.3 overs. Thanks to this partnership, DC managed to score 226 runs for the loss of three wickets in 19.1 overs. Nissanka scored 62 runs off 33 balls, while KL Rahul contributed 75 runs off 40 balls.
