Pakistans Cricket Team Faces Major Setback Ahead of ODI Series Against Australia

New Delhi, May 20: The Pakistan cricket team has suffered a significant blow ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. Veteran batsman Fakhar Zaman and young opener Saeem Ayub have been ruled out due to injuries.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), both players are currently undergoing rehabilitation and recovery under the close supervision of the board’s medical staff.

In a statement, the PCB announced, “The Pakistan Cricket Board has declared that both players are recovering from injuries and have been advised to continue their rehabilitation program under the PCB medical panel’s supervision. Therefore, they have not been selected for the ODI series. The PCB wishes both players a speedy recovery and hopes to see them return to competitive cricket soon. Further updates regarding the team’s and players’ fitness will be shared in due course.”

As of now, the PCB has not announced the squad for the ODI series starting on May 30. The board will need to explore options for opening the batting lineup against Australia.

Fakhar Zaman and Saeem Ayub were last seen playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Fakhar is one of Pakistan’s experienced batsmen, having scored 3,861 runs at an average of 45.42 in 92 ODIs, including 11 centuries and 19 half-centuries. Saeem Ayub has made 751 runs and taken 9 wickets in 17 ODIs.

The Pakistan cricket team recently faced defeats in both Test matches during their tour of Bangladesh. Therefore, they will be eager to deliver a strong performance in the ODI series against Australia.
