Pakistan: Govt appoints Omer Cheema as Punjab governor

Islamabad, April 3 : Pakistan’s Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has informed that the federal government had removed Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar from his post and appointed Omer Sarfraz Cheema in his place, Dawn reported . The announcement also comes just hours before a crucial session of the National Assembly on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan as well as a sitting of the Punjab Assembly to elect a new leader of the house following Usman Buzdar’s resignation. It is not immediately clear why the federal government decided to remove Sarwar as the information minister, did not provide a reason. At the time Chaudhary had said that the new governor would be announced later. ACL1228
