New Delhi, April 28: Devdutt Padikkal, the left-handed batsman for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), commended the impressive bowling of Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar against Delhi Capitals (DC). Padikkal noted that the pressure they created in the first six overs set the tone for the match.
Hazlewood claimed 4 wickets for just 12 runs, while Bhuvneshwar took 3 wickets for only 5 runs. Thanks to their outstanding performance, RCB bowled out DC for a mere 75 runs. RCB then chased down the target with 81 balls to spare. This duo ensured that DC never recovered from the early blows, taking three wickets each during the powerplay.
After the match, Padikkal stated, “I think it was fantastic to see how we bowled in those first six overs. Both are very effective with the new ball. When bowling like that from both ends, it puts immense pressure on the batting team. This was clearly evident today.”
When asked about his experience fielding in the slip while they were bowling, Padikkal replied, “I expected a catch on every ball, which is not something you usually say in a T20 match. But given how these two were bowling, every delivery was a chance.”
Discussing his slip catching, the left-handed batsman mentioned, “I believe it has a lot to do with the time spent on the field. When I started my career, I wasn’t very good at slip fielding, but with more practice, you get better. It all depends on how quickly you can catch the ball and ensuring your hands remain soft.”
Padikkal also emphasized the importance of finishing the chase quickly, remaining unbeaten on 34 runs, while Virat Kohli crossed the 9,000-run milestone in IPL history.
He added, “Of course, I think when there’s a big score on the board, it’s crucial to try and finish it as quickly as possible. After Beth (Jacob Bethel) started the way he did, it became quite easy.”
