
Mumbai, March 16: The 98th Academy Awards showcased a fierce competition between films “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners.” In a remarkable turn of events, Michael B. Jordan from “Sinners” clinched the Best Actor award, while Jessie Buckley from “Hamnet” took home the Best Actress title.
Jordan appeared emotional as he accepted his award on stage, marking his first Oscar win. He triumphed over notable actors including Timothy Chalamet, Ethan Hawke, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Expressing gratitude, he thanked God for his victory and acknowledged his mother, who was present at the ceremony with the family. “God is great,” he stated.
He also expressed appreciation for his friend and director, Ryan Coogler, saying, “It’s an honor to call you my collaborator and friend. I love you.”
Jessie Buckley, winning her first Oscar for her role in “Hamnet,” outperformed several strong contenders. Among the nominees were Rose Byrne for “If I Had Legs I Would Kick You,” Kate Hudson for “Song Sang Blue,” and Renée Rainsway for “Sentimental Value.” Buckley has made history as the first Irish woman to win the Best Actress Oscar.
Accepting her award, Buckley expressed her joy and thanked the women who supported her throughout her journey. “I am inspired by the incredible women I stand with, and I want to work with all of you,” she said.
In “Hamnet,” Buckley portrayed Agnes Shakespeare, the wife of playwright William. Directed by Chloé Zhao, the film has received a positive response globally.
