Srinagar, Mar 6 : In view of the fire incident at the valley’s lone Bone and Joint hospital in Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir government has started orthopedic clinics at five district and sub district hospitals in the interest of patient care. The orthopedic clinics will start functioning from Monday, which will run 24×7 and 14 orthopedic doctors have been posted at these places besides Chief Medical Officers have been directed to provide Para medical staff for smooth functioning of these clinics, an order issued from the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir reads. They said the five hospitals where orthopedic clinics will start functioning include JawaharLal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) hospital Srinagar, District Hospital Pulwama, District Hospital Kulgam, Sub district hospital Kupwara and Sub district hospital Sopore. The Chief Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents of these institutions have been directed to put in place all the requisite arrangements so that the Orthopedic services to the patients are started from Monday. The Financial Commissioner, Medical and Health Education Vivek Bhardwaj Sunday said the Bone and Joint Hospital which suffered damage in a fire incident on Friday night would be made operational within one week or ten days. The fire which started in the Emergency Operation Theater and engulfed and damaged the attic and upper story of the hospital. However, the patient’s wards were not affected. The cleaning operation of the building has been taken up from Saturday. Dr Samia Rashid Principal Government Medical College Srinagar in a statement Saturday had said the Out Patient Department (OPD) and Emergency Services will resume from the unaffected building of the hospital complex soon.
