Opposition to Nari Shakti Vandan Act Sparks Controversy in Parliament

New Delhi, April 17: The discussion surrounding the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ has ignited tensions among BJP MPs following remarks made by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan urged all parties to unite in support of the bill, questioning the opposition’s resistance.

In a media interaction within the Parliament complex, Mahajan stated, “I have observed the entire debate. The reservation bill has passed, and now discussions are underway regarding the allocation of seats. This should be embraced, and adjustments can be made after five years. What is there to oppose? Politics should not interfere in this matter.”

She emphasized that if women are gaining rights, it should be a cause for collective celebration. “I believe it is better if there is no opposition. I trust that everyone will come together to pass this bill,” she added.

BJP MP Hema Malini responded to Gandhi’s comments, asserting that while everyone is discussing the issue seriously, Gandhi is trivializing it. “He is not serious,” she remarked during her media interaction.

Kangana Ranaut, another BJP MP, criticized Gandhi for discussing personal trauma and magic shows, suggesting that his remarks trivialized the parliamentary proceedings. “When the Speaker asked him to stop, he responded that everyone should enjoy. The entire nation is watching, and he is turning Parliament into a joke,” she stated.

On the other hand, Congress MP J.B. Mathur expressed concerns about the potential political implications of the bill. He mentioned that while they had previously supported women’s reservation, the current bill seems aimed at altering the political landscape and implementing delimitation, which he deemed unacceptable.

Mathur pointed out that the Prime Minister did not mention delimitation during his speech, despite its relevance to the bill. “The BJP is attempting to reshape the political landscape to suit its agenda. They are all anxious,” he concluded, supporting Gandhi’s assertion that the bill could be seen as treasonous.
