New Delhi, April 17: Opposition leaders gathered for a special session regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, expressing their views and targeting the central BJP government.
Akhilesh Yadav, President of the Samajwadi Party, spoke to the media outside the assembly, stating, “Understanding the decisions of the Bharatiya Janata Party is quite challenging. When they mentioned that there would be an SIR and measures to prevent voter name removals, they were simultaneously implementing the NRC under the guise of SIR. Now, they are using the Women’s Reservation Bill as a cover for delimitation.”
He added, “We are discussing making Uttar Pradesh a trillion-dollar economy under the ‘double-engine government’ model. However, the minimum wage in Noida remains among the lowest in the country. What steps are being taken to address this issue? Why is labor pay not increasing? Who is blocking this? It indicates collusion with certain individuals, benefiting only a select few.”
Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav emphasized, “It is crucial for women to have a seat in the assembly. However, the government appears to show one thing while doing another, much like the elephant’s teeth—what is visible is different from what is consumed.”
Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh remarked, “In the current state of confusion, it seems the government is attempting to work for political gain. Regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, as our leader Priyanka Gandhi clearly stated in the assembly on Thursday, if your intentions are sincere and you genuinely wish to implement it, you already have the support of the entire opposition and the Congress party. You can implement one-third reservation within the existing 543 seats, so what is the issue?”
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari stated, “Delimitation will impact the constitutional structure and the relationship between the center and the states. The way delimitation is being advanced raises serious concerns, especially as seen in the distorted forms in Kashmir and Assam. Trusting this government will become difficult for anyone who truly loves Bharat Mata.”
Tiwari further noted, “According to the notification passed in 2023, a 33% reservation for women in the current Lok Sabha was approved. We wanted this to be implemented from 2024, but you did not proceed. Given that it has already been implemented, why is it being reintroduced?”
