Odisha Government Focuses on Orange Economy to Boost Employment through Tourism

Bhubaneswar, May 11: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chara Majhi announced on Monday that his government is prioritizing the promotion of the ‘Orange Economy,’ which emphasizes a culture-based economy. This initiative aims to create job opportunities for locals through tourism development.

Majhi made these remarks during a special event held at the Lingaraj Temple. The occasion marked the 75th anniversary of the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, celebrated as ‘Somnath Swabhimaan Parv.’

As the chief guest, Majhi highlighted the deep and invisible connection between Somnath and Lingaraj. He stated that while Somnath stands as the guardian of Western India, Lingaraj symbolizes the unbreakable spiritual strength of the East.

The atmosphere at Lingaraj Temple (Ekamra Peeth) was notably spiritual. The Chief Minister, along with other senior leaders and attendees, watched a live broadcast of the Prime Minister’s address and worship rituals. The Prime Minister, as the president of the Shri Somnath Trust, participated in the event held at the Somnath Temple in Prabhas Patan, Gujarat.

During his address, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of preserving Indian culture and the development of Shiva temples across the state.

Recalling the historical struggles of Lord Somnath, Majhi remarked, “The reconstruction of the Somnath Temple marked the beginning of the revival of Indian civilization under the leadership of the Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Today, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is experiencing a cultural renaissance.”

Majhi referred to historical events, noting that invaders repeatedly attempted to destroy temples and crush India’s spirit, but due to the unwavering faith of the Sanatanis, the temples rose again each time.

Reflecting on the events of 1951, he stated, “The reconstruction of the Somnath Temple was made possible due to Sardar Patel’s strong resolve.”

He added that Prime Minister Modi’s mantra of ‘Development and Heritage’ is evident in various projects, from the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor to the grand construction of the Ram Temple.

The Chief Minister announced that in line with Prime Minister Modi’s policy of ‘Development and Heritage,’ the Odisha government has initiated the Ekamra Area Development Project at a cost of ₹330 crores and the proposed Shri Jagannath Museum project at ₹1,000 crores. These initiatives aim to help establish Odisha as India’s cultural capital.

He reiterated that promoting the ‘Orange Economy’ and creating employment for locals through tourism are among the government’s top priorities.
