Bhubaneswar, May 15: The Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has announced a significant relief for millions of state employees and pensioners by increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 2%. This decision raises the DA from 58% to 60%, effective from January 1, 2026, allowing employees to benefit retroactively.
According to the Chief Minister’s office, the increased DA will be disbursed in cash along with the salaries for May. This move is expected to enhance the income of employees and provide relief from inflation.
In addition, the state government has also announced a similar relief for pensioners, with a 2% increase in the Temporary Increase (TI). Pensioners will receive this enhanced amount with their May pensions.
This decision is anticipated to benefit approximately 850,000 employees and pensioners in Odisha. It aims to alleviate the pressure of rising prices and strengthen the financial condition of the workforce.
Earlier in April, a 2% increase in DA for central government employees was approved, also effective from January 1, 2026. This increase benefits around 5.046 million central employees and 6.827 million pensioners, based on recommendations from the 7th Central Pay Commission.
