OBC leaders agitate in front of Parliament for BC Bill

New Delhi, March 29 : Members of Other Backward Castes (OBC), under the leadership of National BC Welfare Association, organised a demonstration in front of Parliament on Tuesday. The agitators demanded introduction of ‘BC Bill’ in Parliament, providing 50 per cent reservation for OBC’s in Assembly and Parliament Elections. Addressing the gathering, R Krishnaiah, President of the Association, attacked the Central Government for what he called its anti-BC policies. “We will start a revolution all over the country, if the BCs are not given quota in Assembly and Parliament elections. All political parties need BC votes, but they don’t want to give the power to BCs,” he added. Krishnaiah said that many states like West Bengal, Tripura, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Orissa, Assam, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh do not even have a single MP from BC castes. R Krishnaiah said that unless backward classes are given their due share of power in politics, they cannot progress socially and economically. People who suffered form hunger and poverty, should come to power, otherwise these basic changes in society will not be possible in the country. If these oppressed classes get representation in legislative bodies, they will be able to bring legislation for eradication of poverty, hunger ignorance and innocence, he added. As per Krishnaiah, “If we want our country to progress and prosper in the world, the Backward Classes who constitutes 54 per cent of population, should also progress and prosper, otherwise the goal of India becoming a developed country in the world cannot be achieved. “For this, every Indian should shed hatred and discrimination and strive for development of all classes, irrespective of caste and creed. The Onus of bringing social reformation rests with the government. We reiterate the necessity for backward class reservation in Assembly and Parliament elections,” he added. He said as long as participation of majority sections of BC’s is not there in election field as candidates for MLAs and MPs, there shall not be a popular democratic government. When fruits of Independence are shared with all sections of the society equally, then only it is the real Independence. Without proper representation of BC’s, India cannot be built as a strong country in the contemporary world, he added. XC RKM RJ
