NTPC, GGL partner to blend green H2 in PNG

Mumbai, April 5 : In a bid to decarbonise the cooking sector, state-run power generator NTPC on Tuesday said it has partnered with Gujarat Gas for blending of green hydrogen in piped natural gas. “With the continued focus on clean environment, NTPC has taken up an initiative of blending green hydrogen in piped natural gas network of Gujarat Gas at NTPC Kawas,” a company statement said here. Under this, green hydrogen will be produced by using electricity from the existing 1MW floating solar project of NTPC Kawas, which will be blended with G in predetermined proportion and used for cooking applications in NTPC Kawas township. Initially the percentage of hydrogen blending in the G shall be around five per cent and after successful completion it shall be further increased, it said. “This hydrogen blending project at NTPC Kawas is a pioneering effort and first of its kind in the country. This is a step towards the decarbonization of the cooking sector and self-sufficiency for energy requirements of the nation,” the company added. NTPC, which has an installed capacity of 69 GW, with a diversified fuel mix plans to achieve 60 GW of RE in a decade, is executing several pilot projects in the green hydrogen space.
