Nora Fatehi to Appear Before National Commission for Women Over Sarke Chunar Controversy

New Delhi, May 6: Actress Nora Fatehi is set to appear before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday regarding the controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar” from the Kannada film “KD The Devil.” The commission had summoned her, and she is expected to present herself at 11:30 AM.

The NCW has taken cognizance of complaints related to the song and scheduled a hearing. In a statement to the media, the commission requested all members to take note of the issue. Various organizations and women’s groups have raised objections to the lyrics, video, and presentation of the song, claiming it undermines women’s dignity.

Following the controversy, the NCW acted on its own accord and issued a notice to Nora Fatehi. In the song, she stars alongside actor Sanjay Dutt. After its release, the song faced significant backlash on social media and from the public, with many labeling it as obscene and disrespectful to women.

The NCW is reviewing all aspects of the case. The commission believes that any content that harms women’s dignity in the name of entertainment should be dealt with strictly. During the hearing, Nora Fatehi may be questioned about various aspects of the song, including its production and presentation. She will have the opportunity to present her side.

Actor Sanjay Dutt had previously appeared before the commission on April 27, where he issued a written apology, stating that he never intended to offend women or societal sentiments. During this session, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar posed several questions to him, emphasizing the social responsibility of artists.

Additionally, during the hearing, Sanjay Dutt made a significant announcement that he would cover the educational expenses for 50 tribal girls. He also assured that future projects would prioritize the dignity of women and children.
