Bengaluru, March 27 : Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh on Sunday said students will not be permitted to sit for SSLC exam wearing hijab and there would not be re-exams for those who skip it. “After the Karnataka High Court order, we did not allow hijab during teaching hours. We had told them that they can come to the institution wearing the hijab but will have to remove it during classes. Same condition will apply during the exams,” he told reporters here. Nagesh appealed to the students to shed their egos and attend the exams. As many as 8,74,000 children are appearing for the exams and adequate staff is provided to conduct it, he said. The exam will be held in 3,444 examination centres. Also, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai asked the students to write the exam without fear. He said the Department of Education and the Department of Home have made arrangements for the smooth conduct of the exams. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday refused to take up an urgent hearing on pro-hijab pleas challenging the Karnataka High Court verdict by saying not to sensationalise the matter. BDN GK
