Lucknow, February 19: The Uttar Pradesh government has clarified that there is no fee for easy access to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. This statement comes in response to questions raised in the state legislative council regarding the easy access fee at the Ram Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya addressed the queries, stating that the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi is managed by the temple trust council, which has the authority to set fees for easy access. In contrast, no such fee is applicable at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Maurya informed the assembly that between January 2025 and January 2026, approximately 1.07 million devotees received access passes for easy viewing at Kashi.
He explained that decisions regarding easy access fees at temples across the state are typically made by the respective trusts or temple management. Meanwhile, the state government oversees security, traffic management, and basic facilities. Maurya noted a significant increase in the number of devotees visiting Kashi since the completion of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor. In 2017, around 7.7 million devotees visited, while this number surged to over 170 million in 2025.
Additionally, the number of foreign visitors has also risen. In 2014, about 28,000 foreign devotees visited, which increased to approximately 399,000 in 2024 and 321,000 in 2025. Maurya emphasized that the growing number of devotees at major pilgrimage sites, including Kashi, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj, reflects improved facilities and arrangements. The government is committed to maintaining the sanctity of these pilgrimage sites and will take strict action against any irregularities. Promoting religious tourism to strengthen the state’s economy remains a top priority for the government.
