Nitish downplays defeats of NDA in by-elections

Patna, April 18 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that there was nothing worrisome in defeats of recently held by-elections across the country as it was not a general election. Kumar told media persons here that there was nothing worrisome for defeats of NDA in by-elections across the country. It was not a general election, he remarked. Chief Minister said it was the verdict of people which should be respected. He had never made any comment on the mandate of the people and it should be accepted, he added. Kumar said that NDA had won both assembly seats in by-elections held in October last year in Bihar. It was still not known what was the reason behind the defeat of NDA in the by-election for the Bochaha assembly seat, he added. Chief Minister said that all NDA leaders had campaigned for by-election in Bochaha. During talks with BJP in days ahead, the exact reason behind the defeat of the NDA candidate in Bochaha would be known, he added. Kumar said that number of Corona positive cases had started rising again. Bihar government was on high alert and people should also cooperate in containing the Coronavirus infections, he added. Chief Minister while responding to a query on special status demand for Bihar, said that his government had been working hard for the development of the state.
