New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget for the ninth consecutive time. This milestone has sparked varied political responses both inside and outside Parliament.
BJP Member of Parliament Manan Kumar Mishra praised Sitharaman’s consistent efforts, stating that it is a matter of pride for India to have a woman finance minister who has successfully fulfilled her responsibilities over the years. He highlighted that the budgets presented under her leadership have primarily focused on public welfare and the comprehensive development of the country.
According to Mishra, the government’s priority remains to meet the needs of the common people and to propel the nation forward.
Addressing the parliamentary discussions and disruptions, Mishra criticised the opposition, saying that both the government and the ruling party are always ready for debates. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju support constructive dialogue in the House. However, he accused Rahul Gandhi and his party of creating noise at the start of discussions and leaving the House as soon as serious debates begin, describing this behaviour as detrimental to democratic processes.
On the other hand, Ashok Kumar Mittal, a Rajya Sabha member from the Aam Aadmi Party, responded to the Prime Minister’s remarks by underlining the significance of women reaching high-ranking positions and contributing to the nation. He called it a reflection of women’s empowerment and urged society to encourage and support women at all levels.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Sougat Roy expressed a contrasting view, stating, “There is no hope. The economy is in bad shape and the US is increasing tariffs.”
